From the HSUS website:
The Humane Society of the United States filed a complaint Wednesday asking the Federal Trade Commission to stop Rose Acre Farms, the country’s second largest egg producer, from making false and misleading animal welfare claims.
The complaint details statements issued through Rose Acre’s websites, media spokespersons, and product posters that falsely claim that Rose Acre provides a “humane and friendly environment” for its caged hens, that hens in these cages have plenty of space to move around and socialize, that only chickens who are treated well and who are “happy” will lay eggs, and other grossly misleading characterizations of the company’s battery cage confinement egg operations.
Apparently HSUS is seriously opposed to corporations making “misleading animal welfare claims”. Which is interesting since that tactic forms like, their entire advertising campaign soliciting the public for donations. HSUS counts on the public believing that their donations are used to help shelter pets when in reality, HSUS spends less than 1/2 of 1% of their annual budget on local shelters. And shelters in some states, such as Nebraska, don’t see a penny from HSUS.
I’m glad to know that HSUS is now, as of June 16, 2010, willing to fight those who make misleading animal welfare claims. I look forward to reading their federal complaint against themselves. tick-tock-tick-tock

Oh, this is delicious! One wonders what they’re going to say when a similar request is made of the FTC regarding HSUS itself.
Just another example of HSUS doing what they attack others for.
Should we collectively hold our breath waiting for HSUS to file suit against themselves? Or better yet, make their fundraiaing message crystal clear regarding fund utilization?
I suspect not, but keep hoping to be proven wrong.
I was contacted last week to join the HSUS President’s Club and make a monthly donation.
The person on the phone actually told me that 60% of their funds went to lobbying. I asked her to give me the name of 1 animal shelter that the HSUS ran for the “rescued” animals. I was transferred to a supervisor who could NOT give me any information but still wanted my money.
I kept them on the phone for about 20 minutes. I think I saved some people from hearing their lies.
