*rolls eyes* nice blame the no-kill shelters. Higher standards? Really is it too much to ask for you to just care for these animals and show them love?
The shelter standard? Such high expectations.
I have gotten two dogs from the WV shelter, I know from my experience the volunteers go above and beyond to help any animal get out alive. They do need more networking.. But one problem I did had.. No-one at the shelter answers the phone or emails. I had to call the county commissioner office to get the first dog out.
They can’t answer the phone or e-mails because no kill shelters force them not to.

It is no longer just the irresponsible public to blame. It is also the No Kill shelters, who can’t do their jobs for them. That is a new one. Good luck selling that excuse.
It continues to amaze and disappoint each time I hear the ignorant arrogant uncaring quotes from Animal Control staff, Directors, Law Enforcement and Councilpersons and Commissioners and above. Until there are standards in experience and training requirements for AC Staff – and Law Enforcement staff are trained to handle animals issues (which ARE people issues) – there’s not much hope in a quantum change in these entities. The animals continue to suffer…
I don’t know what to say. I can’t even wrap my brain around this. Well, no, that’s not true. I know that local Animal Control used to get competitive and jealous when local rescues wanted to pull the easily adoptable cute and fuzzies. So I suppose that is where the “No Kill forces us to kill” comment comes from.
And, come to think of it, I have heard the current Animal Control manager say that population control is a strong part of Animal Control and that they are NOT a shelter. (Although The Shelter Fund—the local non-profit fundraising group that supports Animal Control with donations from caring members of the community—wants Animal Control to be called The Shelter!)
