On Tuesday, the police in Huntersville, NC, accompanied by Char-Meck AC and representatives from the ASPCA, raided a property allegedly used for dogfighting and seized 16 adult pitbulls and 7 puppies. The dogs have been taken to a secret location. No one has been charged at this point but the investigation is ongoing.
Kathryn Destreza, ASPCA’s director of investigation, immediately began smearing the victims:
“They’re alive, but they are in various states of medical conditions,” she said. “They’re not pets by any means, not like your dog, but they’re currently going through their medical evaluations.”
They’re not pets by any means. They’re not like your dog. Gee, that’s so weird because they remind me very much of my dog:
So weird, right? But I guess they’re not like my dog somehow, even though they totally seem like my dog. Because ASPCA.
Rescued. Smeared. Taken to a secret location. And, I presume, already being used for fundraising purposes by the ASPCA.
What say you, unwashed masses? Do the dogs in Huntersville remind you of your dog? Could a dog who hasn’t been treated as a pet in past start being treated like one and possibly like it? Will anyone stand up for these dogs and demand their rights to live, to love and to be loved be protected? If only there was some kind of society for the prevention of cruelty to animals that could do that.

Didn’t the ASPCA call for all of Michael Vick’s dogs to be killed?
I assume some of these dogs would make fine pets, and unfortunately some might not, but when the people who are supposed to be helping them are already dismissing them and making excuses, I fear that none will get to their “happy goal.”
All I can think of is the case sometime in the last year or so when the ASPCA seized 50 dogs in a dogfighting case in NYC, took them to an undisclosed location, used the raid to raise money, and then killed 17 of the dogs.
I guess someone forgot to issue my sooper-seekret jawlocker dog detector glasses. They just look like dogs to me. And puppies. The implication that such tiny puppies aren’t potentially perfectly good household pets is absurd.
Whenever I see that animals seized in a raid have been taken to an undisclosed location, I expect them to be disappeared.
That’s how they operate. Undisclosed location and not like other dogs raised a lot of red flags for me. Love the way you compared these “dogs” with Jade. They look like dogs to me, and as we learned from the MV fiasco, with proper socialization and training, most can become wonderful pets. Maybe BadRap will get involved.

And they were supposedly boots-on-the-ground during the Valley fire yet anyone I’ve asked who was actually there, on the front lines, said “A-who? But I’ve gotten the fundraising request emails!
The ASPCA is claiming they worked the Valley Fire …? WTF?
So far as I can find, they did have a claim to that effect up on their website, but it was DOA as of yesterday and I’ve been unable to pull up any remnant of it beyond what was briefly retained by Google. Like loranc, I’ve not seen nor heard any indication that there was any official involvement of the ASPCA in the Valley Fire, or any of the California fires this year. I’ve also not seen any indication of unofficial involvement.
They really have no shame.

these dogs are as good as dead including the puppies as soon as the ASPCA feels they are “used up” and can no longer bring the cash..bet HSUS is hopping mad they didn’t get there first.
Racing greyhounds are certainly “not like my dog” but the ASPCA won’t stand up against the cruel treatment & horrible deaths b/c racing is a billion dollar legal “business”
This is so very odd. Right before I saw this, I was watching a 90 second infomercial from the ASPCA and they went on and on about how when they went to a dogfighting bust all the dogs were so happy to see them and loving and kissy even though not all the dogs would make it out of the shelter (presumably because they kill some of them)
Just to clarify.. it was HSUS that demanded the Vick dogs be killed ( a policy they’ve disappeared).. and later notoriously fundraised using the image of a pit bull they had done nothing to help. It was ASPCA whose staff became dogfighters to catch dogfighters… and later abandoned the dogs they had exploited. Both orgs are really expert at getting a lot of publicity for “dogfighting” busts (though most of these busts are in truth are more like hoarding/mass breeding situations) and then dumping the dogs on local rescues, providing few financial resources

My dog Gaia, looks in fact exactly like those dogs. When I found her she was wearing a 3 1/2 foot logging chain that she had on since she was a time pup. We celebrate 12 years together this month and she is my North Star. A little chocolate and white game dog came into my life and changed it’s course forever. It saddens me that the SPCA is still so obviously breedist , that the Vicktory dogs and the lessons learned from them didn’t stick with the largest “Humane” group in the world. It reminds me of when Miss Paula Dean was caught using ‘that word’. It didn’t seem to fit the image she had cultivated just as this entire thing goes to point out that they have a long way to go before they can represent all animals.
