And then look at the areas where there is enough money/enough resources to go no kill but the powers that be choose to make excuses instead of changes. My own county animal control claims to not kill for space for saves fewer than 70% of the animals they take in (with the EXCUSE of being open admission, for one). Congratulations to the UP and other counties in Michigan for doing it right!

We know that! UPAWS is a gold standard for how to do this the right way! Now that we have a new director, they continue to claim they don’t kill for space but have started finding more medical and behavior reasons to do so. If they want to kill, they will find a way to do it. And I think it starts at the top. Besides our animal control, we also have a very successful humane society doing wonderful things! So many people just avoid animal control and deal with the humane society.

I started crying when I read this. We had a cat die of FIP and it was utterly devastating — he was a year old and we’d had him for only 10 months. I should add that he had the dry form, but if there’s hope for the wet form, perhaps there will be for the dry form as well, sometime relatively soon. Such incredible news — thank you for posting this.
I cried too, just stood there unable to stop. It’s a disease that breaks hearts.
And yes, the new trial is expanded to include some cats with dry FIP.

A judge finally put a stop to DAC entering private property without a warrant or extreme circumstances to seize dogs:
This is the same county and same CA that refused to prosecute the PETA workers for stealing and killing Maya.
Personally, think she deserves to be found guilty. There are laws and law enforcement for a reason. I’ve seen far too many cases of innocent people letting their pets out for five minutes in winter turned into the vilest scum of the earth by people with an ax to grind. She stole the dog. She admits it. Regardless of who owned the dog, she did not have permission to take him. That is theft by definition.

I went to a local cat show today and learned there’s been a successful clinical trial of a new antiviral drug that suppresses FIP coronavirus replication in cats with wet FIP.
