Especially for those who are prepping for a giant meal, here is a lovely photo.  This is just for fun and the only rule is:  no researching.  Post your guesses in the comments.  Reading other people’s answers before posting your own will make your relatives even angrier than is usual for a holiday is optional.  Answer will be posted in the comments tomorrow.

  2. Motherhood. Sheesh.

    I know some spiders do this, but clearly not a spider so I don’t know. Wouldn’t be surprised if the name had “spiny” in it, though. Or “hairy”.

    Bless you guys for thinking this photo depicted maternal instinct. You give me hope. Sadly, you are all dead wrong:

    This is Acanthaspis petax, a member of the Reduviidae family, which is found in East Africa and Malaysia. Like other assassin bugs, it hunts its prey by piercing it with its proboscis, injecting paralysis-inducing saliva and an enzyme that dissolves tissue, then sucking out the innards. But unlike other bugs, it then fashions empty ant exoskeletons into protective outerwear. The insect can carry as many as 20 dead ants at a time, and binds them together with a sticky excretion into a cluster that may be larger than its own body.
