The below article appeared in Forest and Stream, May 2, 1889. I thought it interesting to read the perspective on the history of dogs in war prior to the world wars. Dogs have indeed been trained to work with militaries around the globe since this article was written, including the present day. Dogs are also used as therapy for soldiers who return from war, which this article did not envision.
