I’m happy to accept reader submissions for Shelter Pet of the Day. For each submission, please include as much of the following info as possible:
- Photo of the pet (dog, cat or bunny)
- Name, address and phone number of the shelter
- Links to shelter’s website and to pet’s listing online (if applicable)
- If it’s a kill shelter, a link to their stats (if available)
I’ll post shelter pets from anywhere in the U.S. (with an occasional Canada listing thrown in for good measure). Whenever possible, it would be great if the person submitting the Shelter Pet of the Day could post a follow up comment to let us all know how the pet is doing. Suggestions and feedback welcome.
E-mail address for submissions is eiderdown AT yesbiscuit DOT com

/ August 19, 2011These are two chocolate siamese cats in Georgia who are going to be killed on Monday. They are obese and one even has urine burns on his belly. Couldn’t get the photo to copy (sorry) but if you’re willing to go to covered in cat hair (link from Pet Connection blog) I’m sure you will be able to get it. Please consider helping these cats – they really are quite beautiful and in desperate need!

/ November 11, 2011I recently decided to foster a dog from the Mahatten NY shelter. I seen her on a facebook feed URGENT PART 2. there are alot of good people who try to save these dogs. There is a problem with the whole system there and also a high kill rate. The dog Midnight that I am fostering had kennal cough so she was going to be put down. Please take a look at the site. people post comments and makes you aware of the situation there.
Midnight is doing great and my home is going to be her forever home.
