  1. Does anyone “working” at MAS care about the animals, even a little bit? It breaks my heart watching these poor, terrified animals being dragged off to the kill room, day after day after day.

I know that the people of Memphis are aware that this goes on because they bring their unwanted to this place to be killed every day.

    Doesn’t anyone in Memphis care?

  2. The answer to anyone at MAS caring about animals, even a little bit is a resounding NO! Their body language says it all!

As far as anybody in Memphis caring? Even with giving them the benefit of the doubt that they MIGHT possibly think they’re taking their animals to a place from where they’ll be adopted, nobody can be that stupid. Ignorance isn’t bliss and there’s no excuse for it.

  3. A JOB ONLY A HEARTLESS MONSTER COULD ENDURE. THEY COULDN’T PAY ME ENOUGH TO DO THE DISGUSTING DEEDS YOU FOLKS DO ON A DAILY BASIS. AND THESE ACTS OF CRUELTY WOULD GO UNDONE IF THERE WERE NOBODY TO FULLFILL THEM. I GUESS EVERY TOWN NEEDS A WAY TO KEEP KILLERS HAPPY. FRANKLY I DONT KNOW HOW YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT. I HOPE EVERY NIGHT YOU LAY DOWN YOUR HEADS ARE FILLED WITH CRYS AND THOSE SAD EYES THAT ONCE LOOKED TO YOU FOR COMFORT AND A BETTER WAY OF LIFE. YOU KILL THE HELPLESS!

  4. So many of us care, but the killing goes on. It just sucks the life out of my soul to even watch this happen. I don’t know how to stop it!

  5. Until the city quits letting the chimps run the zoo,,,,THIS is what is going to continue to happen in Memphis.

  6. PLEASE LISTEN…there are people who do care…we seem to be fighting a losing battle. It seems that most of the general public doesn’t care. I believe that it is because most of the general public do not know that MAS IS A KILLING FIELD! I have said this before…when the spay/neuter law was about to be voted on..there was one city council member that had the audacity to ask what spay or neuter meant…she was just before either voting for or against the LAW! That is pitiful…not only did she show her ignorance, she let it be known that she had not even read what she was to be voting on!The surrender form used at MAS uses “euthanize.” I want the wordage changed to KILL and maybe more people will take their animal back home…maybe just a few will be saved but that is better than none. I know it seems impossible but, so far, by far, the majority of the politicians in Memphis have refused to listen to the public outcry, have refused to give “a hoot.” There are a lot of good Memphians that do reallize what a BLIGHT MAS is for the city as well it should be. When you have a government run entity, employees that part of the city union, fully protected, & SECOND CHANCE FELONS, how can a group of totally dedicated animal advocates get to the “PERSON” in the CITY GOVERNMENT that will even listen to them…for just a moment! Letters, emails, phone calls go unanswered. Newspaper and magazine articles seem to be totally ignored. I have no answers, but I will keep trying!

    1. News flash! You can’t fix stupid but you can VOTE IT OUT!
You can get rid of bad government officials by voting them out of office. All of those people have been voted into government and they certainly can be voted out. Get people into places of power that have a humane outlook on the citizens and the animals; ones who care about those who are defenseless and must depend on others to speak for them. Get someone who cares more about the people and animals more than they care about their own pocketbooks.

      1. Yes! Here is an e-mail I sent to a group of compassionate pet advocates in Memphis in August. I don’t know where things stand at this point but elections are coming up in Memphis this week.

        Subject: Rock the Vote

        Dear Memphis Friends,

Your city council and your Mayor are subject to the vote this fall. From what I understand, council members Harold Collins (3), Jim Strickland (5), Myron Lowery (8-3) and Reid Hedgepeth (9-3) face no opponents in the October 6 election. The mayor’s race of course is full of candidates at this point. I hope that you will consider composing a no kill questionnaire to submit to all the candidates to see where they stand on no kill issues. You can look to the questionnaire the Austin advocates sent out for guidance. Based upon the answers received to the questionnaire and the previous voting records, a list can be compiled of which candidates are the most supportive of lifesaving reforms in Memphis. Those candidates can then be endorsed and promoted locally to family, friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens.

Perhaps someone could start compiling the voting records on animal issues of the candidates and someone else could compose and mail out the questionnaire. Please let me know if I can offer any assistance should you decide to undertake this endeavor. I am happy to help in whatever way I can.

Please feel welcome to pass along this message to any other Memphis advocates you think might be interested in helping.

        Kind Regards,

        Shirley

      2. And how do you vote people out of office when NO ONE else is running against them?? I mean… we are about to have elections for mayor and city council… there are 2 people running against the current mayor, 1 who is even more crooked than the present mayor and possible more so than the last mayor.. The other person running is a rather disturbed individual, who technically does not even reside in Memphis anymore, he live in FLORIDA! So… who do we vote for??
As for city council… well, there 13 seats up and only I believe 5 has anyone running against them… so that guarantees 8 of the same idiots will return. They can’t be voted out if there is no one running!

  7. What many of you outside of Memphis don’t understand is that the citizens who do care are waging an uphill battle. Mayor Wharton will win re-election because there are no opponents strong enough to beat him this time around. And many of the City Council (who are criminals in their own right) will get re-elected, also, because a great deal of the population in this City are uneducated and live below the poverty level. The only way that MAS will ever change is if it is privitized by a non-profit animal rights group. The City government needs to get out and stay out of the “shelter” business!! If any wealthy individual or foundation is willing to step up and build a no-kill sanctuary in the Memphis area, we’ll be glad to help you put MAS out of business for ever!!!!!

    1. Exactly, Debi! However, I do believe that Wharton will have the last say on who to award MAS, if it is privatized…..
