  1. I am not a Black Friday Shopper, but this year I took my Senior GSD out to Tail Waggerz (a locally owned holistic pet food store) and we made a stop at Petco (she loves to pick out “cookies” from their treat bar). It was a fun way to spend Black Friday and by the time we went out (9:30am), everyone else was home in bed from shopping all night long. I might have to make it a tradition… :)

      1. Oh. In that case:

UPDATE: Pup still here! Is generally charming, loves to cuddle, awful mommy guarder and compulsive herder. Available to ANYONE WITH A CHECKBOOK.

(Last part is humor, although she is available, for reals.)

    1. Here’s a random idea I’ve had: Recently a low-cost vet clinic opened up next to a major retail store and I thought it might be a good idea if the clinic were to have some kind of black friday special. People could take their pets to the vet and leave them their (especially for spay/neuter), go shopping and after shopping pick up their pet.

  2. I would like to know you tips for getting the ^($@*# lazy dogs to help out around the house. I feed them and care for them, and they don’t lift a paw to do anything beyond looking cute and making me laugh.

The house needs to be cleaned, the Christmas lights need to go up, and those two laze around the house all day, leaving it all for me to do.

    Help!! :)

      1. Sadly, that’s almost certainly true.

What would you wager the corn’s from China?

  3. My son Ethan and I are grieving the loss of one of your year old guinea pigs, it is winter here in the UK and they boys have a hutch inside a brick shed deeply bedded up with an old quilt over the front. Went to feed them and noticed Max was lying still and had passed over during the night. So we buried him this morning and we both cried. Ethan was insistent if I took Max to the vets that he would be made better. So I had to explain and told him that pets and furry creatures have their own special heaven with a beautiful coloured bridge named Rainbow Bridge. I have taken Max’s brother Paddy into the house earlier tonight to give him some affection as I did often with both guinea’s and I left the room and Ethan held Paddy, I listened at the door as he spoke gently and told Paddy that sadly Max has died and gone up to Jesus. It was so endearing.
On a brighter note, we are 26 days away until our Romanian stray dog arrives in the UK. We are going to be adopting Sasha who is a German Shepherd cross breed. She is a beautiful looking dog with the famous GS colouring.
She was on the streets of Bucharest, amongst her friends, all hungry and looking for love and affection.A lady was feeding Sasha or Skinny as she was known as. She was little more than a bag of bones. She was there every day same time everyday and often the other dogs would pinch her food which she never fought over. The lady and her friend got Sasha off the streets and away from the danger that lurks.
Romania is a cruel place for stray dogs, cats and indeed horses. Animal welfare is not high on the list. Some sectors are not too bad but the majority are just awful. The vicious dog catchers are brutal in their methods, and after that the dogs fate is decided with either poisioning, starvation, being put to sleep, beatings, shotgun, or whatever they feel like. And this happens in shelters. There are pictures and videos on youtube that show exactly what things are like. Just look up Botosani shelter May 2011, over 200 dogs were beaten and shot to death, some vaccinated and had homes and foster homes waiting for them. The dogs were meant to be unwell with some “disease” yet no tests were done and no results have ever been seen, their bodies cremated along with the non-existent evidence. Look up Romanian Stray Dogs, Danube Delta horses. I have a couple of videos on there. We all did a wall of faces telling what we thought about the plans for euthanasia for the dogs. But they perform silent votes, they do anything possible to make it right for what they want to do.
There are a lot of good people in Romania who risk their own lives to help some of the dogs, yet the law is against them. If a neighbour makes a complaint a squad of dog catchers and police (they are all corrupt and work together) will go and physically remove any dogs and if anyone objects they will be beaten and arrested.
Please have a look at the youtube videos and you will see for yourselves. There are so many angry Romanians that do not see why the world has to see what goes on inside its country. They will get angry and rude and deny it all. But the videos are all there, I have seen many photographs too.
Thank you and carry on youbiscuit with this brilliant thing you do. Through you we can be made aware of animal cruelty within these vile hellhole shelters. Together we can do something. I truly admire the whistleblowers who give evidence and take film footage of what goes on. The animals need people who care.
    Best wishes.

  4. I just finished reading the following plea for help and it tore my heart out. What scares a dog so badly that she screams when anyone approaches her? Just the thought that she’s been so traumatized makes me ill. Is there anyone reading this blog that can help?

The person who rescued her from the pound isn’t able to keep her as her foot is broken.

    http://www.examiner.com/dogs-in-national/lilly-a-throw-away-dog-so-frightened-she-screamed

    1. I too have been following this story, I can’t personally help, but I am sharing this plea on Facebook. It has to be the perfect home, not a kennel or in boarding. I’m fostering a dog right now that has never lived inside of a home. With lots of patience, gentle words, a soft touch, and consistency, this dog will trust.. maybe for the first time ever. Please.. all of you.. send out e-mails, if your on FB.. share with your friends. Sharing saves lives.. Fostering saves lives.

    1. Josh Liddy at Sway Love is amazing. You should visit his swaylove.org site. Not only does he advocate for Pitbulls, He seems to be an ally in the shelter reform area’s to. His shelter reform blog roll at his site links to Nathan Winograd and the No Kill advocacy center. But it’s his story about his dog Sway (who he honors daily with the work he does at the Carson shelter and elsewhere) that is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written about the human animal bond and grieving. It helped me immensely this year when I lost my dog. It’s featured on Stubby Dog and so enjoyable:
      http://stubbydog.org/2011/08/sway-love/

      1. And I wanted to add that the Huff Post article mentions most of the animals will end up in the gas chamber which gave me major pause since CA outlawed it back in 2001. Either this writer is wrong or Carson shelter needs a lawsuit against them.

  5. And sorry for the back to back comments but I am at work now and trying to squeeze these in without getting caught but un-related to the above Mayor Wharton just posted on his blog about MAS. He’s such a douche but atleast they lowered adoption fees for the yappy hour.

  6. Just read the Huffington Post about Josh Liddy and his rescue work with swaylove – if they made a movie about this man they couldn’t supply enough kleenex. Brave, kind and good.

Also – Huffington Post author of the article, Leighton Woodhouse – in the comments section states Carson Shelter uses lethal injection.

  7. want to add – maybe with this major attention via Huffington Post the Carson Shelter will consider the No Kill equation and become a No Kill shelter.

  8. I don’t know how else to post this, so please don’t complain. The photos did not come through, and Zelda (at the end) is NOT THE CONTACT. I can forward the photos of any of these dogs to interested parties. C’mon, save a life gor Xmas!

WILL! There are volunteers who can pick up dogs/pups from the shelter
for you and take them to local boarding!!!
