Solid Gold Tries to Get the Stink of Coverup Off its Greedy Salmonella Hands

Diamond makes some of Solid Gold’s foods.  As such, I was surprised their website has continually claimed none of the company’s foods were affected by the salmonella recall.  Today that changed and Solid Gold has finally issued a recall for 2 of its foods.  The news is worded such that customers might think Solid Gold is heroically putting out this information today, instead of waiting overnight in order to coordinate with the FDA, because the company truly cares about the health of customers’ pets.  But bear in mind that, like all the other companies involved, Solid Gold has known all along its food was made at the contaminated Diamond plant in SC which was shut down on April 8.  Today is May 8.  Not so heroic.

The updated list of pet foods recalled due to salmonella follows:

  1. I’ve been feeding my dogs Simply Nourish dry salmon and sweet potato food for over a year now. Doesn’t look like they have been recalled..whew!

  2. Sorry, but for those of us who have been through this before, the stink never goes away!

  3. The first recall seems to just be the tip of an iceberg, so to speak :(. My all time gold standard for a caring company is Tylenol back in the 70s – and it turned out to NOT be their fault but they left nothing to chance from their end. Too bad Diamond and its affiliates can’t do the same.

  4. That this many foods are claiming potential Salmonella is just too convenient. I honestly believe there is more going on than they want to admit. I greatly fear it’s going to be Melamine poisoning again. They are trying to get the products off the shelf before someone gets wise and tests for Melamine.

  5. Does anybody know if the TOTW recall includes the cat kibbles? It just occured to me that I’d not checked the cat food and the numbers match….but they keep saying its DOG FOOD thats being recalled. I sent them an email (and will update when I receive a response) since its after 5pm their time. I’m seriously not looking forward to finding a new kibble for them, my older cat is BEYOND picky and getting her to switch is hell, but she’s the one with the compromised immune system too….

      1. Urg. Actually my response to that is unprint-able. Guess I’m buying new cat food today….

      2. Yup, got confirmation from TOTW, cat food is included. Picked up some Earthborn to try the cats on….

  6. And to add to the stink factor, they bury the recall on their website. Rather than having a link on the front page, the only way to find the recall is to click the tiny “News” link at the bottom of the page.

    1. Me too, but the cats refuse to switch, and the older cat in particular is THE pickest eater you ever saw.

  7. I have 2 cats and one started wasting away. Got her to the vet and am wondering if their food was bad. Neither wanted to eat the solid gold food anymore and then the other started to waste away too. Anyone had this happen with the dry food? Switched them to Blue and they both are gaining weight again. Had my other kitty die last year from the same thing but it was too late to get him well again.
