I’m posting the video for this lovely dog since the photos don’t do her justice. Her name is Scrappy. She’s 13 years old and the shelter is giving her away for free to anyone who will provide her with a loving home.

So sad.. that dog didn’t get to be 13 years old living on the streets.. how could anyone dump their dog after all those years,, will share on FB
I don’t know what the circumstances were regarding Scrappy arriving at the shelter. Maybe her owner became ill and could no longer care for her, maybe her owner died, maybe her owner was put in a nursing home where pets aren’t allowed… who knows? But whoever cared for Scrappy apparently did a good job and I’m glad she’s at a shelter now that is actively marketing her and waiving her adoption fee. Thank you for sharing her.
Any one of the those could be the reason.. so where are the other family members. and I am very glad they are trying to help her.
Changing the subject. Since my foster “Ruby” got hurt, my landlady informed me that five dogs was too many.I’m now limited to four dogs from now on. Which means unless I can get Julie placed in a forever home.. I won’t be able to help any more dogs.
Stories like “Scappy” and all the others have me in tears every time I sit down at the computer knowing I can only share.
Update.. Ruby couldn’t be loved more in her new forever home!
I am so happy to see the shelter waiving the adoption fee for this senior and I’d like to see more of that. Waiving/reducing fees for all animals that have been in there for X amount of days, seniors, black large breeds, etc. is a great way to get them out of the door alive.
I’ll donate the cost of a bag of food for the adopter.
AHHHH… they are working it!! This is the way it should be done!!!! marketing in all way possible. and showing her in a very positive light – paws crossed for this little lady…(wish i were closer, she’s the kind of little dog I like and I love seniors) Yah for Scrappy! And thank you for pointing out that there are sometimes circumstances where people have to tearfully give up a pet….for no fault of their own. Any time a well groomed, well manner pet is surrendered some immediately assume abandonment…but there are just times when things are not good, such as the circumstances menitoned above….AND it hit me – the public has kind of been conditoned to think that EVERY dog or cat in a shelter is abandoned or abused or neglected…and that is not so….Good Luck Scrappy!

If the whole entire country wasn’t between me and this little lady, I’d go scrap her up in a heartbeat!
While her backstory (how did she land in a shelter?) is a point of curiousity, to me it’s not nearly as important as the story she will create with her new family when she is adopted.
I just watched her video again. She makes me scrappity-dappity happy!
She looks like she was well cared for and is happy go lucky. She is already spayed. Someone needs to get her ASAP!
Awww! She is so scrappity-dappity cute! As mentioned above, this is the way to market an animal, especially with waiving the adoption fee. I really hope she gets a (good) home, and doesnt have to spend the rest of her days in a shelter.
Update – Scrappy went home with her lucky new owners on Saturday! Thanks for all the nice comments about her – she is a cutie.

What wonderful news! Glad she did not have to stay at the shelter long. I am partial to the older ones. To those shelters who think older/elderly animals are not adoptable-shame on you! Think outside the box when it comes to adoptions of older animals.
