For anyone wandering around the internet this New Year’s Eve, here is a little game with only one rule: no researching. Just post your best and/or lawlest guess in the comments. Reading other people’s answers before posting your own is optional. Answer will be posted in the comments later today.
looks kind of like a fossa, but I didn’t know they came in spots
Looks like a cross between a lemur and an ocelot.
Mom was a snow leopard and dad was a ferret – their passion was a forbidden passion, but it burned with the fire of a thousand suns and would not be denied!
Oh great. Now I have an image of a windblown Fabio in my head.
Some sort of Lemur…what a beauty!! (The Windblown Fabio REALLY gave me pause…I could’ve gone ALL 2013 without thinking of that!)
I don’t see Fabio as a ferret.
Cervix cat?
Oh, dear. I have to recuse myself, because I was looking at a picture of one of these just last night. *sits on hands*
Well you are all in trouble now as Eucritta is one of the people who consistently answers these correctly.
It’s a cross between a snake, maybe a python, and a mongoose, I’m sure. Who knows, but i think it is scary.
I’m going to take back my tentative fossa guess and go with civet cat.
It LOOKS like a breed of Serval cat….. but it’s neck sure is long and so is it’s body.. but then, there are several species of serval cats..
I dont know anymore. I might have to take that back.. it kind of looks like a civet, but it’s head and neck are much smaller and longer…… so .. when you gonna tell us Biscuit! lol!! I cant’ stand it much longer!! lol!!
This is windblown Fabio:

Not a spot or stripe in sight.
Well, that’s an image for the new year!
ANSWER TIME
This is a banded linsang. From the Wiki entry for this animal:
Dang! it’s about time! I would have still thought it to be some species of serval! I have never heard of this cat! And I had to think real hard about it not being a civet species. I just LOVE watching NatGeo Wild and the Animal Planet, if and when they ever have anything about cats on there (Animal Planet) but never have I ever seen or heard of a linsang. NatGeo’s where I thought I saw the civet species, but the serval is such a prominet cat and I’ve seen it on NatGeo before.. But never ever saw anything on a “linsang” … is it okay to go look it up now? I think I’ll email NatGeo and get them to do a story on this bugger! Thanks for the neat question!! and it IS a LOVELY cat! Happy New Year everyone!!! May God bless you all and especially bless all the animals in 2013! ~Kat~
Google away to your heart’s content! Happy New Year!
FUN FACT: Kopi Luwak is an expensive coffee obtained from beans collected from the droppings of the Asian palm civet, a catlike creature that eats ripened coffee beans. The taste of the beans is apparently improved by their passage through the animal’s digestive tract.
MY QUESTION: Whose bright idea was it to first sample & brew the beans pooped out of a cat (or anything else)? Were they *that* desperate for their morning java and had nothing fresher layin’ around?
Well Sirrahc, if you eat anything with NutraSweet in it,, you’re eating bug crap. Take a tour through the NutraSweet plant in Augusta Ga. tiny little black bugs that eat a certain type of leaf and the droppings are collected and processed and poof… you have NutraSweet… so who had THAT bright idea …
Just another tidbit what I call useless information.. ;) “Until one has loved an animal, part of their soul remains unawakened” Kathie
