Treats on the Internets

Memphis City Councilman Shea Flinn, who sponsored MSN legislation in 2010 which has failed to stop the killing of pets at the Memphis pound, now wants to push the stinkbomb that is MAS off on the county.  (Thank you Clarice for the link.)

From the AVMA website:

Good news! The long-awaited 2013 edition of the AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals has been published[.]

Bad news:  It’s 2013 and the AVMA still hearts gassing pets to death.  (Thanks Arlene for the heads up.)

A S.C. bill introduced by Rep. David Hiott (R) and backed by the 700-member S.C. Association of Veterinarians would limit spay-neuter, vaccinations and other low/no cost services currently offered by non-profit animal organizations.  Private vets feel these services are unfairly cutting into their business.  (Thanks Carol for the link.)

You probably want to go into some ex-military guy’s basement in NC for your next tattoo, I know.  Dogs however, don’t have much say in the matter of who does their ink.

Internet celebrity Justin Bieber, having handed off his BFF hamster to a stranger in a crowd, has a new pet:  a baby monkey.  Only good things can result.

  1. The MAS thing concerns me. We’ve seen Shelby ACO’s behaving abusively on camera. Unless there’s someone there with real leadership skills and compassion, I very much doubt that it would change for the better…and it might change for the worse.

  2. Anyone interested in advocating against the SC spay/neuter bill, or who wants to be able to share info can find my action alert at http://ow.ly/jH5dl It is a share-able picture with links to additional articles, find your legislator, petition, and a Best Friends capwiz form.

I’m pleased to say the AL House voted to save our spay/neuter clinics by approving HB188 by a large margin (79-14) late yesterday afternoon. There is still opposition in the Senate where SB25 is lying in wait. We’ve been fighting for close to 2 years. SC residents need to act now.

  3. Love, Love, Love the stories of soldiers and the animals they befriend and bring back to the states!
