The director of the Franklin Co pound in NC is under investigation after he admitted shooting a Basset Hound to death on shelter property. He reportedly examined the dog’s injured paw, determined immediate killing was required but did not call a vet or the pound’s certified kill techs. Instead, he shot the dog with a 22 caliber rifle. Dozens of cats and a few dogs are in need of homes in the Visalia, CA area due to a home based shelter undergoing foreclosure. The shelter recently sent some dogs with Tulare County AC but fears the cats will be killed if AC takes them. Any cats not adopted at the time the owner is forced to move will be cared for outside until placement can be found. (Someone posted this link in the comments but I failed to note who or where. Housekeeping: I installed a new theme on the blog this morning. If anyone has trouble reading anything because of the new theme, please let me know.
I’m pretty sure the part about the Franklin pound manager being “investigated” is B.S. They’re just saying that there’s an investigation so people don’t think nothing is being done. But really, nothing is being done. The inspector filed his report Aug. 1, and that would have been the end of it if WRAL hadn’t seen the report (I’m pretty sure someone brought it to their attention). So after it became news on Aug. 20, all of a sudden there’s an “investigation” going on …
The director is scheduled to sit in a room with someone from the health department for 30 minutes whilst enjoying coffee and donuts. Paperwork will be completed in triplicate.

Yeah, I’d love to be naive enough to think that this guy was just thinking of the dog’s suffering, but I’m pretty jaded and I’m betting there’s no real punishment at all. I’ll give a marginally small bit of credit that the guy is trying to improve things at the shelter, but it’s not nearly enough.

With the new theme, the whole blog now looks much bigger in my browser window, and a portion of the main column (which is now on the right instead of the left) is initially cut off. I have to move the bottom thingy to the right in order to see the main column in full. (I did restart to make sure my computer wasn’t just tired.)
Huh. I’m using Firefox and it formats on the page with wide borders, so plenty of room for it with no slide bar at the bottom. Maybe it’s how your display is set?
It must be something like that, but I’m at a loss. I just checked Vox Felina, also a WordPress blog, and there’s no change there, so it doesn’t seem to be a problem in my computer’s relationship with WordPress overall. I don’t want to hijack attention here, but if anybody has an quick-to-mind suggestions, I’d appreciate them. I’m on a Mac laptop, running Chrome.
Theme: everything is huge. Cannot fit everything on my screen. Firefox on a Macbook pro.
You know what, I think your blog was set to zoom in a couple of levels on my browser because your previous design had print too small for us grayheads. I zoomed out two levels and problem solved.

Glad to hear. I was thinking the larger appearance was a good thing so when I read you guys were having trouble I was bummed. De-zooming to the rescue.

I learned something new today (the Ctrl and +/-), which is always a good thing, so thanks for that! However, I no longer see the ‘Reply’ link so that we can reply to specific (previous) comments. That’s really helpful so we make sure points being raised and replied to are in their own sections, and we aren’t confusing (or irking) people when we reply.
Thanks for pointing that out KateH. There is still a reply link but it’s a mouseover in this theme. I actually hadn’t noticed until you said something. See if the mouseover function works for you.
Ah, I see that, but not having actually it visible is dumb (not that whoever did the programming for this style of page cares).
It’s dizzying how many variations there are in these themes. I had a basic goal in mind – larger text – but it’s so not that simple. Some themes don’t distinguish blockquotes sufficiently for my preferences. Some don’t allow a sidebar. Some require 2 sidebars. Some highlight the author’s name at the top of every single post (which, when you run a one author blog, is a waste of space). And of course the nicest looking ones cost money so I limited myself to the free selections.
