I was waiting to find out which rescue was going to pull him and then I would donate. This poor dog could have lived and known love and kindness. Everyone in my dog group is sad and angry about this.
That poor, poor pup. He deserved so much better than he got. So many people were trying to get him out of that killing place and into a safe one. OOPS killing? The killers seem to think as long as they say “sorry” and go on killing, it’s okay. Well, it is NOT okay and this poor dog has paid with his life.
Shame on the people who are responsible for this atrocity!
The director of Hillsborough Animal Services released a statement to the media Thursday saying JoJo, a one-year-old male German Shepherd was mistakenly euthanized the day he was to go home with his newly-adopted family.
It is time for the dog and cat groups to come together as one unified animal group to protest the horrific mess that Ian Hallett has made during his tenure as Director of Hillsborough County Animal Services, almost two years after the County pledged its goal of Save 90. Mr. Hallett is killing our dogs and cats faster than the rescues can save them! It is time for him to go. To that end, I sincerely hope you will join our protest of Mr. Hallett, his killing policies, and HCAS. We are organized, we have had enough, we are not backing down, and we will prevail! I do not live in Florida, so I can only be with you in spirit. There are certain shelters that when I read the name of the shelter or the name of the director, I expect bad news. Hillsborough and Ian Hallett are on that list. Please keep us updated.

Here is a Great Story:
On Sept. 10th a cat escaped in the Walmart Parking lot from her owners truck who is on a cross country trip and not from the area (from Vermont). Her dad is traveling and he left the window open a little too much and she jumped out. Her name HEIFER, she is 10 years old, spayed female. She is super friendly but not knowing where she is, I’m sure she is very scared. The word went out like wildfire on our UPAWS Facebook page, Lost and Found Paws of the U.P page and media links. Search parties, live traps, flyers etc. and our community spread the word and searched. But week after week no luck. The dad stayed as long as he could searching but had to leave. But our community still searched. Well, one month later…a lady comes to UPAWS with a cat she found in her yard. After much back and forth with pictures & videos to her mom in Vermont…YES!! It was Heifer!! She was found 6 miles up the highway (busy 4 lane hwy) almost by UPAWS!! Her family is driving from out east to pick her up today!! The power and compassion of our community amazes me and brings me to tears!
