Original post is below but I have changed my mind about asking people to transfer miles after learning from a reader that the airline charges an outrageous fee to do this. I’m sorry I didn’t know about this at the time I asked. It makes no sense for anyone to give up their miles *and* pay an enormous amount of cash at the same time. Heck, I could buy a regular ticket for the amount they charge. Anyway, positive thoughts still greatly appreciated.
Original post:

My mom has been entirely independent and fully functional, living alone in Connecticut, until now. While accompanying a relative to a doctor’s visit in May, my mom was accidentally knocked down by a staff member in the hallway. She hit her head and has been declining, including two more falls, ever since. Her last fall, for which she is currently hospitalized, resulted in a head wound and four fractured ribs. She is now unable to live on her own and will be transferred to an inpatient rehab facility upon discharge. I am hoping she will be able to recover fully but her prognosis is unknown at this time.
A family member flew me to CT last week so I could care for my mom between hospitalizations. It was the first time I’d been able to see her in five years. I’d love to be able to go back and visit her again, ideally more than once as her recovery will be a marathon, not a sprint. To this end, I just signed up for a program with American Airlines that allows members to redeem miles for flights. If anyone has any American Airlines miles they can’t make use of themselves, I would be very grateful to receive them so I could visit my mom during her recovery. My American Airlines Advantage number is U8TV768.
I realize this is a long shot and most or all of you aren’t American Airlines Advantage members. And knowing you to be kind-hearted people who probably want to do something to help, I would be very appreciative for any positive thoughts you might hold for my mom’s recovery.
Thank you.

Having just been through this myself (being no longer able to live alone) please be respectful when you close out her house. My move was done quickly and I had to watch my whole life be thrown in a dumpster. It was a year ago and it still hurts a lot.
I’m sorry that happened to you Susan. Thanks for the advice.
I’m so sorry she’s going through this. No doubt your visits will be very helpful for both of you! Please do sign up for one of the credit cards that American Airlines works with. You will accumulate miles very quickly between the sign up bonus and everyday purchases. Best wishes for a good recovery for her!
I am so sorry this happened to you and your mother. A similar thing happened with my grandmother some years ago. Is there any other way we can help, like sending you a donation?
Thanks Renate. I have a PayPal account if anyone in a position to donate feels comfortable doing that. Spacing this out to try and dodge the bots:
