Do I need a haircut?

(That’s not an actual question, just a little ice breaker.)
At this point, I think it’s fair to say I’ve developed a passion for researching and writing about dog related topics from the decades before and after the turn of the century. And based upon the number of views my posts on this subject regularly receive and the number of books I’ve sold, I think it’s also fair to say that this interest is shared by very, very few of the people I reach. This is ok. It’s a niche interest and I don’t go all out in trying to reach the widest possible audience.
However, like our friend Linus above, I think I’ve been avoiding something obvious for far too long. That is, the combination of the fees to maintain the blog (which I was kindly gifted this year) and the number of hours I spend on average to create a post that is being read by [a-quite-small-number-that-is-close-to-zero] people is not a sustainable model. Continuing just doesn’t make sense.
And so, I’m going in for a trim. Which is to say I’ll be posting less frequently on the blog. I’m not yet certain what that will look like beyond a vague description of “fewer posts.”
If you are reading this, please know that I appreciate you. And as always, comments are welcome.

Warm wishes for a happy & healthy 2024 to you and your loved ones!

I’m sorry to read that you’re cutting back because I treasure every one of your posts. Your work is unique & there should be more, not less of it. Perhaps your readers have failed by not commenting enough (i.e., not giving enough feedback & positive reinforcement),, That doesn’t mean we haven’t been engaging strongly with your work (Perhaps you should charge a subscription fee.) I hope you won’t cut back too much & I certainly hope you’ll continue your research. In one previous comment I suggested that you write a book. I hope you’ll consider it.

I understand completely. I miss the old days of us advocates in the trenches when people actually paid attention. I fear we are now all drowned out by big money, AI and people’s other distractions. I am one of your niche folks and will always appreciate you.
