Treats on the Internets

At a recent HSUS presser regarding alleged hen abuse in IA, anyone affiliated with agriculture was barred entry, including the editor of the state’s most widely circulated newspaper who writes:

People with a lot more expertise than me were also stuck out in the hallway. That included representatives from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and others affiliated with agriculture.

Should small farmers be exempt from the traceability requirements in the federal food safety bill?

33 Pitbulls were seized this week in a NC dogfighting bust.  76 year old Harry Hargrove faces 27 counts of dogfighting and animal cruelty – all felonies.

If you are a VA resident, you are possibly out – uh, “celebrating” Governor McDonnell’s Confederate History Month.  When you’re able to break away from the the festivities extolling the joys of owning people, you might like to take a look at the Governor’s website.  He proposes legally ending the practice of killing VA shelter dogs based on breed.  Just goes to show, sometimes a little normal seeps through the crazy.

  1. The PSPCA really really needs our help right now and I urge anyone and everyone who thinks they can help to help or atleast spread the word.

Not only are these dogs living in a garage but over 50 cats were seized from a hoarder in the area and all but 8 are adults. Its the beginning of kitten season and alot of these cats are going to be passed over. My city of philadelphia killed (euthanized) over 30000 animals last year due to lack of space.

The staff is very friendly and the adoption proccess is very simple aslong as all of your dogs/cats are speutered. They will ask for references, and if you rent you must provide proof that you are allowed pets. Also I foster and it is a very rewarding expierence and rather easy. You supply the food and litter (tax deductable) and they supply the vet care.

From a fellow pet owner PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Elizabeth, does this mean that, as the owner of three neutered dogs, two neutered cats, and one intact dog, (and foster hooman for two neutered dogs) the process is not “very simple” if I want to adopt one of their neutered dogs or cats?

  3. Houlahan I should mention that I am simply a foster parent for the organization and have no control over their policies. As the owner of an un altered animal don’t you appreciate a heads up on the policies of the organization? Of course I’m sure there are always exceptions to the rules and being that you seem pretty into animal rescue you could probably be one. I suggest that you call 267-385-3800 and ask for the life saving team (the adoption councelors) and ask them yourself as they would know more then I would.

    1. also if you do call them I’d like to know what they said.

(sorry yes biscuit for all the multiple posts)
