When HSUS got in bed with Michael Vick to promote their “End Dogfighting” campaign, many of us were skeptical. Nothing to date has changed my skepticism in that regard.
You may have heard about a new app for the Android market called “Dog Wars”. Basically, you can play dogfighter on your phone. Yay. There has been a huge outcry from pet advocates, condemning the app and asking Android (owned by Google) to block it.
Android tells advocates to quit bitching because “it’s just a video game”. I bet Android is happy that HSUS and Michael Vick have been mum on the controversy thus far.
If you are opposed to the promotion of dogfighting as a game, sign this petition. It’s already got about 7700 signatures. I haven’t scrolled through to see if Michael Vick or Wayne Pacelle are among them. I imagine they are still working the “How can we fundraise off this?” angle and haven’t had a chance yet to publicly comment.
I sent my comment to the android folks and signed the petition, but they don’t seem all that concerned.
Still waiting for the “wayne and mike show” to step up and tell the google folks what a horrible idea this “game” is.

How sad – looks like I’m going to have to get a new phone and cancel anything associated with Google. I love pit bull type dogs – they are near & dear to my heart and will NOT support them any longer if they refuse to remove that app!!!
As far as Pacelle & Vick…of course they will remain mum…until Wayne finds a way to profit off of this!
if a video game depicted rape and allowed the person playing to commit it, would they say the same thing?

PC and I were sharing the most vulgar suggestions for a video game response to this.
Mine were more violent and focused on the Kage Wars LLC staff’s offspring. His were more humiliating and focused on Kage Wars staff themselves. All were far too sexually graphic to repeat here. But maybe not too sexually graphic for a video game. Mebbe an iPhone app.
Surprise! Not really. Vick has been silent about everything recently.
Neither one said a thing about the recent fighting busts in Philadelphia either. 4 rings shut down in his “home” city and we didn’t even get a comment…
Sheesh…I mean really. I guess their next application will be how to raise children for sexual exploitation or Pedophelia 101. I am totally blindsided and disgusted that anyone would write such an app, much less support it!

Thanks for the link to their paragraph. As usual, HSUS is a day late and a dollar short. In order to read their hastily compiled “response”, I had to bust through a pop-up asking me to give money to save baby seals. ugh.
I loved reading how Vick says dog fighting is a ded end street – yeah – for the DOGS! Vicks damn street didn’t end did it?

In a joint statement with Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane Society, said: ‘I’ve come to learn the hard way that dogfighting is a dead-end street.
‘Now, I am on the right side of this issue, and I think it’s important to send the smart message to kids, and not glorify this form of animal cruelty, even in an Android app.’
And I just noticed the comment above with the HSUS statement.
Oh gee. The companion app to Dog Wars is “Dog Bucks” and they are “changing servers and working hard to get the game back up”.

I volunteer at Good Newz Rehab Center, with Dogs Deserve Better. I have been inside the fight shack, and the other buildings. The building where they housed the Momma’s and their babies made me weak in the knees, I could feel the chunks in my throat starting to rise as I imagined what their life was like in that painted black building with no windows or air circulation. I go up there about every 2 weeks and I always leave feeling good inside. If any of you guys are close enough to volunteer, or visit the center, you really should!
