Bringing up from the comments, a reader proposed a candlelight vigil for the pets at Memphis Animal Services. For anyone who’d like to participate, it’s set for Saturday, May 28 at 8pm Memphis time, in memoriam and in honor of the shelter pets, both living and dead, at MAS. I will put up a post that night for anyone who’d like to share thoughts or simply let us know they have lit a candle.
You can blow out a candle but you can’t blow out a fire – Peter Gabriel
Hi Shirley: Is there a way for the blog to do a virtual candle lighting, where people come YesBiscuit and virtually light a candle?? Wouldn’t that be awesome???????
There are some sites that offer that. I just checked one out and lit a virtual candle there. I’ll look into it.
Thanks, I’m not anywhere near MAS but I’d love to participate in some way, online or locally. Let us know more when you can. Thanks again.
Is this vigil being held in front of the shelter and the Memphis city hall? I hope so, this needs to have a physical presence so the public can see what is going on.
I should clarify that my post was meant to offer anyone, anywhere the opportunity to participate in a candle lighting from their own home for the pets at MAS. I am not in Memphis and I have not heard of any plans for a physical gathering at this time.
I think it would be GREAT is people went over to the Mayor’s office and held the vigil there at lunchtime! (I don’t know what day of the week the 28th is!)
May 28th is a Saturday. Actually it the Sunset Symphony pretty big night downtown by the river. Our flooded river I may add.
Well, then if theSymphony DOES take place, what a wonderful arena to hold the candlelight vigil and raise awareness there about MAS!
Kim: Light candles at the Symphony and hold signs “for the lost lives at MAS”. Be prepared with talking points and polite info for any who might ask.
