Ooh, oooh, it’s one of those landcrab things that eat coconuts! Are they called coconut crabs?

Didn’t I see that guy one time in a space/alien movie?

I’ve seen sci-fi flicks that would have done well to use this critter as opposed to the cheesy fooling-no-one “aliens” they used.

I think coconut crab! They can open garbage cans and they’re HUGE. Also, I’m pretty sure his name is Marvin. And he’s looking for a lime…

Crab makes sense, but I’m kinda glad we don’t have them in Michigan.

Coconut crab. They’re hermit crabs, believe it or not, grown extra large. And they’re very tasty.
When I lived on Guam back in ’80, there were stretches of road that were crawling with these guys at night. Sometimes I’d just park my bike and watch them, feeling like I was in a scene from some 70s eco-disaster flick.

This just popped up on my Twitter feed: 20 photos of coconut crabs http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/news-incredible-photos-coconut-crab?image=0
I’m saddened to read they may be endangered or close to.

Yes, this is where I came across the photo. I was Googling “endangered crabs”. (Isn’t that what everyone Googles?)
