UPDATE, added August 21, 2013: All 4 pets have foster care lined up. Thank you to everyone who shared.
Original post:
Reader Melissa and her family are heading for a homeless shelter. She is hoping to find immediate foster homes for her 4 pets as the shelter will not allow them. She posted her story on Facebook and has given me permission to post her contact info here. If you can offer any assistance, please call Melissa at (225)567-5057 or e-mail her. If you can’t help out yourself, please share with your animal loving friends so we can find care for these 4 pets. Melissa wants to stress that her hope is to be in a position to reclaim all 4 pets as soon as possible as they are beloved family members.
The following photos and captions are all taken from Facebook.
I am keeping a good thought for you Melissa, and for your entire (human and pet) family.

This is exactly what I dream of doing someday, having a nationwide network of fosterers who can help out in these situations. Instead, I’m losing my animals due to homelessness and carlessness.
Boo. I meant to add that I sincerely hope people will step up and help them, because I know the feeling of loss. Will share with the folks I know to network.
Melissa mentioned that the length of time for fostering might be just a month or two. Please help spread the word for her. She’s got three kids under five. Her 2 dogs and 2 cats are well-socialized– and her situation is already so heartbreaking. Surely there’s a way to keep it from being even worse.
I’m sorry you are having to go through this. I am from but don’t live in N.O. & shared this on Facebook. Hopefully my friends down there will share. Any rescue groups notified? Prayers for you & your fur babies.
I was able to find a family who can take the two kitties in, so I just need someone for the two dogs still. They do not have to stay together, and they get along great with other dogs and cats.
Everyone has a place to go now!!! Yay! A family in Covington is taking the cats, and Humane Society of Louisiana ( http://humanela.org/ ) is taking the dogs. We will all be able to be reunited when we get back on our feet! Thank you everyone!
If anyone is interested, here is a link to donate to HSL and thank them for caring for my dogs and many other homeless animals over the years: http://humanela.org/donate.htm

Reblogged. Hopefully someone will step up and open their home to them.
Maybe I’m having an emotional day, but this literally made me cry. I shared her album on Facebook.
According to her FB page, she has someone to take the cats but needs to find a home for the dogs.

Posted at Ken Foster’s FB page for “I’m a Good Dog.” He is in NOLA and does dog rescue with the Sula Foundation.
