The luxury ocean liner RMS Mauretania launched in 1906. She was the world’s largest ship until RMS Olympic launched in 1910. Both were scrapped in 1935. A video (sound not required) compiling numerous still and moving images of both ships can be seen here. Cunard, owner of the Mauretania, has a webpage on the history of animals on board the company’s ships.
The Mauretania’s running mate was the Lusitania. The Olympic’s sister ship was the Titanic. And that brings us full circle on our Lick of History posts.
