It’s on!

In less than 24 hours, our goal has been reached on the Memphis FOIA fee for security camera footage.  Thank you to everyone who donated.  After the Paypal fees, we collected $807.30.  I will send the extra dollars to Memphis to help pay for shipping the discs.

I’ll update this post with additional info on the status of the request if I receive any today.

  1. Thank you Shirley for taking this on. I chipped in as it seemed the least I could do. I just can’t tolerate standing by and watching

  2. Now we’ll see what we see! Thank you Shirley for all the loops you had to jump through. It’s appreciated by many.

    1. Ug. I dread to hear what they actually did. Can’t we just send them to the moon or something and be done with them? Oh – and maybe stop PAYING THEM THEIR SALARIES too, while we’re at it?

  3. THANK YOU … Thank you all for supporting and donating. Thank you Shirley… I’m so happy we are all here and letting MAS know WE will not go away.

  4. forget about the 3 pups, apparently they are in the adoptable area so they should be ok and find home’

  5. “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Thank you for doing this, and thank you to those who donated.

Guess truth and transparency are expensive. Memphis city officials are unethical for charging this much for these Freedom of Information requests.

Animals are innocent and shouldn’t be abused by those who are supposed to be caring for them, just like children in foster care. The City appears to be trying to discourage people from learning about how animals are treated at Memphis Animal Services.

If Memphis would work WITH more groups to get animals adopted and into foster care, and include links to groups offering pet retention help, they could save taxpayers money, maint public safety, as well as save the lives of animals, like they are doing in a growing number of cities.

Since City officials don’t seem interested in saving taxpayers money, Memphis residents should be questioning them and joining the efforts to change things. It doesn’t have to be like it is now. City officials are not governing the people well. They make unjust choices when better options are available. They take their payment, but are not providing good governance (Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock [from which you make your salary.)

Your rescue groups are very efficient at getting things done. Investigate partnering with as many as possible to offer all the services needed. Work together to create service agreements. If successful plans can be made, apply for grants. Seriously, this is possible.

Deciding to keep doing the same thing will continue to end in failure. The old, traditional organizations like the ASPCA and HSUS are not leaders. Solving this requires macrowikinomics solutions that come from working with those who’ve successfully created economical, safe and life-saving communities.

The godly care for their animals, but the wicked are always cruel. (Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man regards the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.)

“it is his will that men should be merciful to their beasts, Deuteronomy 25:4; and such who are so will be more especially pitiful and tenderhearted to their fellow creatures.”

    1. Most people in Memphis can quote the Bible forwards and backwards. There is a church on every street corner and this area is considered the Bible belt yet …… this is one of the most vicious corrupt and dangerous cities in the United States of America. What goes on at MAS is a reflection of the anger and hatred and yes stupidity that thrives here. Ignorance really ….. and nothing that can be changed in a classroom or training room as the problem runs far deeper than that. Recently a girl at my office told me her brothers dog hung himself on a fence when he tried to jump over it and that it was the dogs fault. Really? She was actually blaming the dog and truly believed it was the dogs fault! Ignorant? Stupid? Out of touch?
I don’t think there is much that can be done with the subculture here and it is the same people who vote the leaders of Memphis into office. They all begin by playing the cover your butt game and will continue this until we reach real leadership figures outside of Memphis and they take note and action of what is happening at the shelter. Question is: Who are they?

      1. You said it right, that’s Memphis.

It breaks my heart to hear how folks treat their “pets” & blame them for their own misery. That’s almost typical, just like MAS treats those in their care.

Shirley: Expect a little more in the mail.
