I saw on the TV news last night that one of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Catherine Violet Hubbard, age 6, was an animal lover and her family has asked that donations in her memory be made to the Newtown Animal Shelter.

After a gunman killed 5 students at Northern Illinois University in 2008, a local group of comfort dogs were brought by their handlers to the campus in an effort to support the survivors. The group has since grown and now has 60 dogs in several states. Ten of the dogs, all Golden Retrievers, are currently in Newtown, doing what they do.
Goldens are very special dogs. I am happy to see they are bringing comfort to many of the broken hearted.
