Be Seeing You, Wendy

Wendy was diagnosed with kidney failure in May and, though she did very well all summer, she declined rapidly over the past week and it was time to let her go.  I held her in my lap as our vet gave her the injections and the last thing Wendy felt in this world was a kiss from Billy.  We only had her for 3 and a half years and wish it could have been much longer but we are so thankful for the time she was with us.

Wendy was a very calming presence in our home, so much that Billy sometimes called her Zendy.  She loved to eat and to sleep, which made us kindred spirits, and she was the only dog I’ve ever known to fake sleep by squeezing her eyes shut when she was clearly awake but didn’t want to be bothered in her bed.  I miss her dear heart already.

This snippet of her playing ball, taken earlier this year, makes me happy:

  1. What a cutie pie. I remember when you got her and I’m so sorry she left you so soon. Clearly she was a happy girl.

  2. I remember when she joined your family. What a precious little girl ~ so glad she got to spend her last years with you. I am so very sorry that you had to send her on her way, and you did it with love. Wish I had better words . . . consider yourself hugged.

  3. I’m so sorry, Shirley. The three and a half years you had her were the best years of her life, I have no doubt. My deepest condolences.

  4. I’m so sorry. I loved her from afar. I especially loved seeing her pictures with Jade. She had some fabulous years with you.

    1. Thank you to everyone for the kind comments. I want to clarify that Wendy was our older Beagle. Our young Beagle, Newt, who often appears on the blog with her bff Jade, is still going full speed. (she goes to eleven).

  5. May all your happy memories of her and her love for you and Billy help you during this sad time. She had a tough time in her life, but being able to live with you for the last part of it, definitely was the best part of it and you made that possible because of your loving heart. Loving animals makes us better people, and you and Billy are two of the best!
