Dog Breeds Lost to Time

While the breeds in this post are extinct, there are current breeds which were likely descended from at least a couple of them. I’ve noted those in the captions.

  1. Sadly a lot of dog breeds have become extinct, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_extinct_dog_breeds. Since all dogs are a variation of the wolf, these breeds could probably be brought back, especially if there is DNA available, and anyone was interested. Here’s a couple of extinct Canadian indigenous breeds: the Tahltan Bear Dog, and the Salish Woolly Dog. The latter was bred for it’s coat and shorn like a sheep several times a year. Both were bred by westcoast tribes.
