Vintage Challenges in the Dog Fancy

Around the turn of the century, dog men liked to brag and bluster and wave around their money. The kennel papers obliged by printing occasional challenges issued by Some Rich Guy to Other Rich Guys or sometimes to A Particular Rich Guy, as is the case here. This challenge is specific and complicated, which is par for the course, and appeared in The Dog Fancier, July 1916:

For anyone wondering, I don’t know how this challenge played out. In fact, while I’ve come across several of these in the dog papers of the era, there never seems to be any follow-up, leading me to believe it was just a bunch of hot gas floating around and eventually, away.
