The troubled Spartanburg pound in SC spent $17 grand on lobbying last year according to the group’s 990 tax form (page 10). The Spartanburg pound has no lobbyists on the payroll to my knowledge so I presume they gave the money to one of the large national animal groups who does. The form doesn’t state to whom the $17,ooo was paid.
In other news, the head of the Spartanburg pound is quitting his job to take a position with the ASPCA as the director of legal advocacy case development, effective April 20.

I wonder what that money bought?
YIKES.. someone needs to check on that FAST..you do great work Shirley
I find it ironic that after years of breaking SC law regarding the holding time of strays before killing them that this person is now made director of legal advocacy case development. I guess water searches it’s own level is true.
Nothing like buying a job for yourself with someone else’s money.
the statement of Spartanburg pound is wrong. Spartanburg has a city pound and the Spartanburg County sends to Greenville County Animal Care Services. Then there is the HGumane Society. So………
“Pound” is derived from the word “impound”. Spartanburg Humane Society was the county Impound facility. After negotiations btwn County and SHS broke down , Spartanburg County obtained a contract with a neighboring county’s impound facility – Greenville. aka GCACS. SHS continues to be the impound facility for the city and it’s residents. And , SHS continues to NOT post intake/kill stats. They have given advocates no reason to believe there has been any significant change in the 81% kill rate. Or that they are willing to do anything to improve it. Now , or in the future.
