Shame on the Smoky Mountain News for repeating the biggest animal welfare myth in the south while reporting on the shelter situation in Jackson Co, NC: In [northern] states with strict spay and neuter laws, there are fewer puppies and unclaimed animals in general, so the demand for animals is higher. The latest in the … Continue reading Treats on the Internets

Ownership of a dog adopted from the Athens-Clarke County Animal Shelter in GA is being disputed between the man who says he lost her and the woman who adopted her.  He says:  Dog got lost, he called shelter twice, they said they didn't have dog, then he saw his dog's picture on the shelter's website, … Continue reading Treats on the Internets

A former employee at the Conway Area HS in NH has been charged with felony and misdemeanor charges after it was discovered she had allegedly been cooking the shelter's books and pocketing the cash - to the tune of $10,000 in a period of months.  One of the expenses she allegedly used the HS's funds … Continue reading Treats on the Internets

Some commenters in the Open Thread have been following the case of the woman who posted a photo online of her dog with his mouth duct taped shut.  Now another woman taped her dog's mouth shut and posted a photo, in solidarity.  Animal abusers gotta stick together.  Pun intended. Reader Eucritta posted this link in … Continue reading Treats on the Internets

The director/supervising ACO at the North Jersey HS Shelter, Vincent Asolese, has been fired after being charged with 14 counts of animal cruelty. An August inspection report of the facility describes sub-standard conditions and says that Asolese slit the throat of a fawn who was impounded on June 29, letting her bleed to death.
